Barnett Could Miss Extended Time; Chillar Injury Not Season-Ending
Barnett may be MIA for a while.
The Green Bay Packers got some good news and some bad news on Wednesday.
First, the bad news. Linebacker Nick Barnett, who injured his wrist against the Detroit Lions and finished the game anyway, could be out an extended period, according to coach Mike McCarthy.
Barnett is getting a second opinion on Friday.
“Yeah, there is definitely a possibility [he could be out an extended period]. That’s why there is more information being gathered in Nick Barnett’s case. He’s been here every day getting treatment and he is going to see another doctor on Friday,” McCarthy said.
The good news is linebacker Brandon Chillar’s injury is unlikely to be season-ending. Chillar’s inured shoulder kept him out of the Detroit game and McCarthy said he’s doubtful for Sunday’s game against Washington.
When asked if Chillar’s injury would end his season, something reported as a possibility earlier this week, McCarthy said no.
“No, not at this point. That’s not the information I have been given. That’s why we are going the route that we are going. It’s a shoulder injury that has occurred to the same shoulder he has injured in the past. Hey, we’ve got to get all of the information that we can, and that’s what we are doing,” he said.
If both Barnett and Chillar are unable to play this week, which seems like a good possibility, Desmond Bishop would likely step in at inside linebacker next to A.J. Hawk. Bishop hasn’t seen extensive playing time on defense, but has repeatedly shown himself capable during the preseason.
Bishop has four tackles on the season.

Dang this sucks. At least we hung onto hawk so he can fill in. Our linebacking corps was deep so I don’t think this is going to ruin our defense. It is a blow though, especially since chillar is so good in the nickel.

That is ridiculous – rub some dirt on it – put a Cullen cast on it and suck it up – a wrist???? C’mon, Man – who needs a wrist besides a QB, a receiver and a back – less chance of a horse collar or facemask anyway.

It’s ligament not a bone so Barnett is a different story than Jenkins.
McMahon’s going to get his look after all of that calling for Bishop. Sounds like we’ll know for sure what he is now. Hopefully he’s a different player than I remember, over pursuing Adrian Peterson and springing him on a 75 yard TD.
