No, by all means let’s pay and reward players for their best efforts with another team. People are still so hung up that that, yes, the Packers built a team in the 90′s through free agency – but THEN It was in it’s infancy. They signed Reggie for a multi-year $17 million deal TOTAL. Now guys are getting $12 Million a SEASON. It’s nonsense (part of what is going to stop once a new CBA is put through). Simply put it is not worth it to pay that much money for a guy’s DECLINING years. You might get one or two good years, but at too much cost and you will be old real quick (just like the Packers in 1998).

Right now the Packers that Ted Thompson bult are the envy of most, if not all, GM’s in the league. Young, talented, and, I’ll say it, cheap. The idea is to get talent that will prosper, give you their best first five or six years, rinse and repeat. The Patriots have succeeded this way, with a few free agents sprinkled in. The last few years they hit free agency pretty big and haven’t won much. They go back to a young team and weren’t supposed to do much – 14 and 2. Huh! Whodda thought?

So here the Pack are with a Super Bowl in pocket, a drafts worth of proven players coming back from injury, sitting with a Colts-in-their-prime Offense and a Steeler/near Ravens like Defense.
