You know what AJ Hawk is? He is the modern version of John Anderson, the Packers outside LB during the '80's. Solid, dependable player with a 12-year career, but never went to a Pro Bowl.

I have to agree with Monty that there is no reason to anoint Hawk an All-pro yet, but I think there are reasons to be optimistic about him this year.

Hawk played a scheme at Ohio St were he played an attaching style. He played so well in this type of scheme that he won a half dozen awards and became the top defensive player in the draft. So the Packers draft him and what do they do? They play him in Jim Bates vanilla defense that has Hawk in a read and react role. I swear to god, at the ball snap in Bates and Bob Sanders scheme the LB's job was to stand there and do nothing.

Capers has stated it will take two or three seasons to get to the point were he can run the Blitzburg stuff. Now in his second season Hawk has a chance to be that type of attacking downhill player again.

Again I'm not saying he's on the verge of greatness, but I wouldn't be suprised if his big play total improved significantly.
