A Look At The Packers Depth Chart
Not so fast, says Donald Lee
The Green Bay Packers have released their first depth chart, which gives us a good idea of who is and who isn’t performing well. It also sheds some light on who is playing where.
On the offensive side of the ball there aren’t any big surprises.
Most notable is that Donald Lee has regained the No. 2 spot at tight end after Spencer Havner came into camp as the No. 2 guy. Rookie fifth-round draft choice Andrew Quarless is listed fifth behind Havner and Tom Crabtree. Reserving a roster spot for Quarless seemed to be a foregone conclusion when the Packers drafted him, but that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore.
Another one of Ted Thompson’s brilliant draft choices, fullback Quinn Johnson, currently sits third on the depth chart behind Korey Hall and John Kuhn. The Packers are unlikely to keep three fullbacks again and Johnson may be the odd man out.
On the offensive line, T.J. Lang is listed as the backup right guard. Lang was supposed to get a shot at right tackle, where it was assumed he would be the eventual replacement for Mark Tauscher. Breno Giacomini is listed as Tauscher’s backup.
Last year’s opening day starting right tackle, Allen Barbre, is listed as the No. 3 left guard behind Daryn Colledge and Bryan Bulaga, meaning his days with the Packers are numbered.
On defense, it looks like linebacker Desmond Bishop is finally going to get some playing time. He’s listed as the backup at both inside linebacker positions, meaning he’ll probably replace A.J. Hawk, who can’t cover a post, in the Packers nickel and dime packages.
Meanwhile, it looks like Brandon Chillar’s move to outside linebacker could be permanent. Chillar is listed as a starter at outside linebacker opposite Clay Matthhews. Brad Jones is the No. 2.

This is scary…all of this Superbowl talk with this roster? Have you seen our DB’s, D-line depth chart? Let’s hope the injury bug does not bite us in the regular season too badly cuz we have shit behind our starters. Isn’t the point of all of these drafts to actually add starting caliber talent to your roster? How can Ted hit on a few key players (Rodgers, Finley, Matthews) in as many years and miss so badly on 1st, 2nd and 3rd rounders in these draft classes?
Also, according to the training camp practice report from today…Barbre was inserted at LT with the #1 unit after Cliffy decided to take a 1/2 day…So, you’re telling me that Bulaga is not better than Barbre? WTF?!?!
08/11/2010 - 7:42 pm
You guys are hilarious. Barbre fills in for one practice to give Clifton a rest and Bulaga some reps at LG and all of a sudden the sky is falling. Barbre probably won’t even be in the final roster.

Barbre’s a matador…I hope your right and he’s gone good riddens!

Unfortunately I think you are right on Barbre. So he had a couple of bad games last year does that mean we cut him. If so we can start with a few guys on the defense. Give him a shot at guard. He can’t do any worse than Colledge. Bulaga needs to push around at LT. He is a natural there.
