Nelson isn’t consistent. Sometimes he hits the hold hard. That’s when he has a good return. Sometimes he turns into Dancing Bear and gets creamed. It’s usually the latter.

His averages would be better if every good return wasn’t called back for some stupid penalty. Those seem to be a case of the Pack having a reputation for being awful on ST and so the officials look for it more.

Nelson did take a kickoff back last year against the Lions – called back due to holding far, far away from the play.

If you watch his college highlight reel, he has the ability. Takes too long to rev up though so he can’t be the primary punt returner.

Dont count out Blackmon, he was dangerous in 08

Since many of the spots are pretty close to decided, my primary concern is that of kick and punt returner. Nelson doesn’t get it done. Blackmon is great – when he’s healthy. I don’t think we can count on him for a full season. Outside of starters like Williams, who else is there? Shield is fast, but has hands of stone.

Desmond Howard made such a huge difference in field position that I think a returner of note is worth a roster position. The gotcha is who? And that Thompson is not soliciting my opinion….I would have traded for Ted Ginn if his contract were reasonable.

All I have to say is that the experiment of punters holding for Crosby needs to end now. If Matt Flynn needs to be the holder until they have someone else to permanently take over.
