Packers Will Reduce Restricted Free Agent Tenders Tomorrow
The next several hours will be interesting for Bigby.
The Green Bay Packers plan to reduce the tenders to their three remaining unsigned restricted free agents tomorrow if those players don’t sign before the 12 a.m. ET deadline.
This is a course of action we suggested would happen last week, and per usual, the “mainstream” media has caught on.
Pro Football Talk reports that safety Atari Bigby received a formal letter from the Packers notifying him of the team’s intentions. Defensive end Johnny Jolly and cornerback Tramon Williams likely received the same letter.
Tomorrow, the Packers will be able to reduce the players’ tenders to 110 percent of their 2009 salary. In Jolly and Williams’ case, that is a substantial amount.
Williams, Jolly and Bigby received tenders of $3.168 million, $2.521 million, and $1.759 million, respectively. If the Packers reduce the offers, the players will be looking at $584,078, $589,501 and $1,704,538, respectively.
We’ll see who blinks first, but my guess is we’ll see all three players sign their tenders today.
