Packers Get A Punter
The Green Bay Packers may finally have a punter who can actually fulfill his job responsibilities.
The Packers announced the signing of Australian Rules Football punter Chris Bryan on Tuesday. Bryan received a non-guaranteed three-year deal.
According to ESPN Milwaukee’s Jason Wilde, Bryan played four seasons of Australian football with Carlton Football Club (2005-06) and Collingwood Football Club (2007-08). He worked out for NFL scouts on March 9 and the New Orleans Saints reportedly tried to sign Bryan last season.
Bryan will join Tim Masthay, who was in camp with Indianapolis last season, as the other punter on the Packers roster. The team also met with several punters at the combine, earlier this month.
While the Packers could still draft a punter, if Bryan is as good as advertised, he may be the leader to win the job in training camp.
“I can consistently kick hang time of 4.5 seconds, which is about 50 yards. I’ve also got the bomb there,” Bryan said. “That’s about a hang time of 5.4 seconds, but it’s the consistency that’s the key.”
