Look at all those meatless brats
I nearly choked on my bacon and mayonnaise-laden turkey sandwich today when I read that Lambeau Field ranks as the third most vegetarian-friendly stadium in the NFL, according to People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.
“The Packers may be named after the area’s meatpacking industry, but that doesn’t mean that fans can’t leap at Lambeau’s mouth-watering, healthy and humane vegetarian and vegan options,” PETA Director Dan Shannon said.
Say huh? I’m not sure I KNOW any vegetarian Green Bay Packers fans, let alone where you could find something meatless in that stadium outside of cheese curds or french fries.
According to PETA, Packers fans have plenty of meat-, dairy- and egg-free options at Lambeau Field, such as meatless bratwursts and burgers, fresh veggies, hummus and fresh fruit.
Really?? Still puzzled, I did some searching. What the story doesn’t mention, and PETA’s press release does, is that some of those “healthy” options are only available in premium or club seating, which we all know costs a pretty penny.
That’s why I’ve never heard of this stuff before. Neither myself or any of my friends and family who attend games regularly are rich enough for the club or premium seats. Unfortunately, we’re relegated to eating real football food like brats, burgers, turkey legs, pepperoni pizza and other greasy, fat-laden meat products. The horror!!
Taking first place in this “survey” was the Raiders’ Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum, followed by the San Francisco 49ers’ Candlestick Park. Figures, I thought with an eye roll. They’re both in California.
The day you see a Packers fan purchasing a meatless brat at Lambeau Field, I wanna know about it. I’ll pay you $1,000. Sheesh.
