Thats right, Brad, you sure do.

That's right, Brad, you sure do.

We reported it in October, and now it’s official.

The Minnesota Vikings have inked a new deal with head coach Brad Childress, extending his contract through the 2013 season at a cost of approximately $4 million to $5 million a season. Childress currently makes about $2 million a year.

“Brad has done a tremendous job leading this football team and we value the positive environment he has created for the Minnesota Vikings on and off the field,” owner Zygi Wilf said in a statement on the Vikings website. “He has continued to positively impact this team and create a strong foundation for future success.”

Said Childress: “My family and I are very fortunate to be a part of the Minnesota Vikings organization. I value the opportunity to continue to lead this team over the next several years as we work toward our ultimate goal of winning a Super Bowl for our passionate fans everywhere.”

Excuse me? I just threw up a little in the back of my mouth.

Ultimately, we think this is good news for the NFC North. Chilly is one of the dumbest coaches in the NFL and is prone to stupidity when it comes to personnel decisions (Tarvaris Jackson, anyone?), play calling, game management, opening his mouth and so forth. He’s also a cross dresser, but that’s another story for another time.

The Vikings are 8-1 – their best start in years – and Zygi Wilf & Co. obviously feel it’s time to reward Childress, who is in the fourth year of a five-year deal. Childress’ win total has increased in each of the past three seasons – from six to eight to 10 wins last season.

But listen, folks. He’s 0-1 in the playoffs. Remember that? We do.

And good ol’ Brett Favre is only going to be around one more season at best. Guess what that means? At least three more seasons of Childress stumbling and bumbling in his attempts to develop a homegrown quarterback of any worth whatsoever.

It hasn’t happened in his first four seasons in Minnesota, and it ain’t gonna to happen after Favre leaves.

So really, this is the best thing that could happen to the rest of the NFC North. And maybe that was Favre’s true purpose in going to Minnesota. Make the team THINK Childress can coach, tricking them into a contract extension that ultimately backfires when they realize oops! This guy really IS just an enginerd disguised as a football coach who is absolutely worthless without marquee players to make him look good.

Brilliant!
