Found this searching for a different article, but wow--what memories. I had friends who lived in an old house across from the Scott dorms, and we watched street sign jumpers from the porch. I remember walking the streets, too...and being high-fived by cops sitting in their cop cars as we passed them. Not much of a riot at all, but yes...the local media definitely painted it as such.

Good times...thanks for the memories!

What a great story...I remember that game fondly. Believe it or not, I was a Senior at UW-Oshkosh watching that game at a friends house on Wright Street (two blocks out from Cherry Street). We had a helmet that we praised and circled around it, with fingers adorning when Jacke made that fateful kick. Needless to say, we nearly destroyed the house afterward in celebration.

Yep, UWSP went bonkers. We were watching the game at on campus union where it was being projected onto a movie screen.

Spontaneous pandemonium.

I remember my friend Eric launching himself onto a table at the moment of Jackes field goal. The table slid about twenty feet and into a wall, which sent him airborne, jackass style. We thought he was seriously injured (as it turned out, he actually was) but he stood up and led the charge to the quad where hundreds of moshing fellow students awaited us. Hand launched bottlerockets, crowd surfing, and prolonged chants of "Jacke, Jacke", "Beebe Beebe" and "USA USA" filled the night air.

I will never forget it.

Great piece Monty.

a similar experience in Stevens Point, WI. Now living in San Francisco your article illustrates why 49ers fans are not exactly hospitable to Packers fans while sharing game-day space. Don't get me wrong, they are way cooler than say your average Vikings or Cowboys fan (I am increasingly feeling like Patriots and Eagles fans are approaching the Cowboys in douchebagery), but they surely don't like the Packers. This Sunday will be interesting. I am predicting a Packers win followed by gracious Packers fans buying the locals a round of beer.
