Packers Offense Gets Into Some Finger Pointing
Well, we knew this was coming because it already happened through the media, with both Cullen Jenkins and Charles Woodson calling out Green Bay Packers defensive coordinator Dom Capers.
Now, it appears, members of that Packers offense are pointing fingers at each other, in what guard Daryn Colledge terms a “come-to-Jesus meeting.” Maybe that means they were all reciting the Stuart Smalley mantra – “I’m good enough, I’m smart enough, and doggone it, people like me.”
The Journal Sentinel’s Greg Bedard sums it up like this.
Quarterback Aaron Rodgers was told he has held onto the ball too long on occasion. The offensive line was told they weren’t blocking close to well enough. The receivers heard they have dropped too many passes. The running backs had left too many yards out on the field.
According to players who were in the room, Rodgers, tackle Mark Tauscher and receiver Donald Driver were the most powerful speakers.
Well, I’ll say this: all those guys had to do to realize these things was read this blog. Maybe I’ll make some printouts and send them over to 1265 next time they start fucking up so they get the message a little earlier.
Anyway, the outcome of an event like this can go one of two ways.
This so-called come-to-Jesus meeting can make guys start playing harder, get their heads mentally into the game and it can pull the team together. Or…
If the Packers suffer another disappointing loss because of the same mental errors and idiotic mistakes, the team is going to splinter apart entirely – every man for himself, all that matters are stats, fuck the coaches and fuck the team.
Let’s hope it’s the former because something like this could propel the Packers to a winning streak and save the season.
“We all have to ask ourselves if we’re doing enough,” quarterback Aaron Rodgers said, “because if we’re not, we’re going to be sitting at home in January watching the playoffs, not playing in them. Again. I don’t want to do that again.”
I like the attitude. If everyone else buys into it, the season isn’t over by a long shot.
