Your Green Bay Packers: Telling It Like It Is

Favre Looks Solid, Unspectacular on Monday Night
Aug 31st
As most fans and former fans of Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre, I had one eye on Reliant Stadium in Houston tonight, when the Vikings took on the Houston Texans.
After Favre’s less-than-stellar debut for the Vikings last week (1-for-4, 4 yards), I think some of us were hoping that Favre was washed up, that perhaps [...]
Packers Begin Cuts, Woodson Talks Big
Aug 31st
The Green Bay Packers began trimming their roster on Sunday, in order to get down to Tuesday’s league mandated 75-player limit. Three players got their pink slips – punter Durant Brooks, receiver JaRon Harris, and linebacker Stryker Sulak.
None of these cuts are a surprise, but Brooks’ release means that the Packers have settled on Jeremy [...]
Green Bay Packers: Starting to Look Like the Real Deal
Aug 29th

The Green Bay Packers hung on for a 44-37 preseason win over the defending NFC Champion Arizona Cardinals last night in Phoenix, but that really doesn’t begin to tell the story.
A friend turned to me this morning and asked, “Do you ever remember a preseason when the Packers looked this good?” The answer was no. [...]
Packers Looking For Backup Quarterback Help
Aug 28th

This should come as no surprise, particularly in the wake of Brian Brohm’s abysmal preseason performance (his second terrible preseason in a row), but the Green Bay Packers are apparently seriously looking to acquire a backup quarterback.
Steve Wyche of NFL.com reports that the Packers could be looking to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, something we suggested [...]
The Total Packers Manifesto
Aug 27th
Earlier this week, a reader of Total Packers questioned our credibility because we use what some people would consider colorful language.
At first, I was taken aback. I worked in the newspaper business as a reporter for several years. I’ve worked at two magazines in various editor and eventually, publisher and vice president, positions. But that [...]
Favre a Dividing Force in Minnesota?
Aug 26th
Well, you had to know this would happen.
It appears that one Brett Favre is creating “issues” or perhaps a “schism” in the Minnesota Vikings locker room, something that can only be good for the Green Bay Packers and the rest of the NFC North.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that several Vikings favor the team’s other quarterbacks [...]
Packers vs. Bills Game Notes
Aug 23rd
The Green Bay Packers beat the Buffalo Bills 31-21 in a preseason tilt Saturday night, as the team improved to 2-0 in meaningless games.
While I will again stress that no one wins anything in the preseason, Packers fans have some reason for excitement entering the 2009 season (which we wish would get here already).
The Packers [...]
Who Can Get Enough of Brett Favre?
Aug 21st

Not us, that’s for sure. Hell, you would think we’re ESPN with as much coverage as we give that asshole.
However, today we have something a little less serious for everyone’s favorite Minnesota Vikings/ex-Green Bay Packers quarterback.
This week’s previous posts on Favre and the Vikings can be found:

The Difference Between the Packers and the Vikings
Aug 20th

The difference between the Green Bay Packers and the Minnesota Vikings?
History? Tradition? Super Bowl titles? Championships? Class?
Yes. All of those things. The Packers have them. The Vikings don’t, and they never will.
However, I think the biggest difference between the Packers and Vikings are their fans. I grabbed this screen shot from the Vikings website on [...]
Reports: Favre to Sign with Vikings Today
Aug 18th

Well, that was quick.
After opening the door on the Brett Favre saga again yesterday when Jay Glazer reported that he thought Favre would sign with the Minnesota Vikings, that very scenario is apparently unfolding right now.
Favre boarded a plane in Hattiesburg, Miss. this morning bound for St. Paul.
According to the Minneapolis Star Tribune, Favre boarded [...]
Hey, Remember Me? I’m Brett Favre
Aug 17th
Yeah, just when we thought we wouldn’t have to mention the name Brett Favre again…
Well, let’s be honest. We knew we were going to have to mention Favre again. We knew we were going to have to talk about Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings.
And so today it starts in earnest again.
Fox Sports Jay Glazer [...]
Packers vs. Browns Game Notes
Aug 16th
The Green Bay Packers beat the Cleveland Browns 17-0 Saturday night in the Upper Midwest Shrine Game. While beating the Browns, a team that may be in the running for the NFL’s worst this season, in an exhibition game isn’t anything to get terribly excited about, there were some interesting developments to come out of [...]
Packers Wrong Not to Make a Play for Vick
Aug 14th

As you’ve likely heard by now, Michael Vick signed with the Philadelphia Eagles, yesterday. While Vick signing with the Eagles doesn’t really affect the Green Bay Packers, the fact that the Packers didn’t make a play for Vick is interesting.
Read Andrew Brandt’s Q&A about how the Vick to Philly deal went down.
As we’ve detailed, Vick [...]
Packers and B.J. Raji Reach a Deal
Aug 13th
Update: Raji’s deal is reportedly worth $28.5 million over five years. The Packers ponied up just under $18 million in guaranteed money. On paper, the deal looks less inflated than the contract that the Oakland Raiders gave Darius Heyward-Bey, which was the reason the Packers were having trouble signing Raji to begin with.
The Green Bay [...]
Time for the Packers to Give Up on Justin Harrell
Aug 13th

The Green Bay Packers have made some missteps in the draft under Ted Thompson. I questioned whether A.J. Hawk was a bust the other day (he is, people, stop kidding yourselves), but as of this morning, 70 percent of you still wanted to give him another year before making a determination.
Fair enough.
Another guy bordering on [...]
