Sage Rosenfels – Get to Know Him
Because reports suggest that Sage Rosenfels is about to be become a Minnesota Viking, and he’s a big upgrade over the two-headed monster known as Tarvaris Jackson/Gus Frerotte.
The deal is rumored to be for a fourth-round draft choice, and would considerably shore up the Vikings weakest position. Somehow, the Vikings managed to win the NFC North last season, in spite of themselves.
Although he seems to have a propensity for throwing interceptions, Rosenfels can sling the ball. Rosenfels started 10 games over the past two years in place of Matt Schaub. He won six of those games, and considering that Houston is in a shootout most every time I look at the scoreboard, the interceptions can be understood.
Paired with NFL rushing champ, Adrian Peterson, and last season’s top-ranked rushing defense, Rosenfels could prove to be a dangerous weapon. The Vikings have lacked any punch at the quarterback position since Randy Moss was making Daunte Culpepper look like Jesus. And now the Green Bay Packers will get to see Sage Rosenfels twice a year.
Rosenfels threw for 1,431 yards (6 TDs, 10 INTs) in six games last year. In 2007, he threw for 1,684 yards (15 TDs, 12 INTs) in nine games. His quarterback rating for those two years was 79.5 and 84.8, respectively. More impressive is Rosenfels’ completion percentage – 66.7 in 2008 and 64.2 in 2007. Compare that Jackson’s career completion percentage of 58.4 and Frerotte’s 54.7.
Suddenly, the Vikings look a lot more formidable. Are you shaking in your boots?
