Koren Robinson

Koren Robinson: fired!

There’s no doubt the Green Bay Packers have a log jam at receiver after drafting Jordy Nelson in the second round and that other guy in the seventh round (you know, the white kid from San Diego) of the 2008 NFL draft. Pair that with a solid, sometimes spectacular top three returning in Donald Driver, Greg Jennings, and James Jones and Koren Robinson was no better than a No. 5 on anyone’s depth chart.

Well, today Robinson, his $700,000 salary, and his alcohol problems became the odd man out.

Not a shocking move, but it left me with one question – who the hell is going to return kicks for the Packers? As I recall, Robinson – when he was on the field – was the biggest threat the Packers have had since Allen Rossum. The return game has been, to put it mildly, unspectacular in recent history. In many games, it’s been an Achilles heal. So now what?

Maybe the white kid from San Diego? Maybe Shaun Bodiford can prove to be of some worth (if he can manage not to get lost in the shuffle of receivers that also includes Ruvell Martin)? Or maybe Brandon Jackson or Noah Herron have something special?

Skepticism is the word of the day, which is how I feel about the majority of Ted Thompson’s recent moves. I am, however, reserving the right to be first in line to fry old TT like a piece of cod on a Friday night in Wisconsin if the Packers have no return game this season.
